the aftermath

well folks- this blog almost died… after the summer I went back to work and this poor lil’ new baby blog suffered from left-alone-ness. Sadly going back to work meant that I had absolutely NO time to blog and then I forgot my password and such not, which made it even worse for when I realized that I did have a moment to blog. So here we are and in some photos I would like to show you our crazy life from September to now… November (YIKeS!).

Day 2 DIY 2

Since I am home all of August, I’ve decided to do some DIY projects. Today I started a multi-day project that will be an awesome addition to my sons room- a chalkboard dresser. Yes, you heard me right- I am going to give my son something he can scribble all over on purpose! Today was day 1 of the multi-day process and all I did was apply 2 coats of chalkboard paint (per instructions on the packaging). Tomorrow I’ll get to use the chalk to condition the “boards” and then wipe it all clean with a little bit of soap and water… I can’t wait! By the way- here is where I got my inspiration.

DIY- Gotta love it!

Recently I’ve decided that I am going to do some DIY stuff for my sons room. I am working on a few projects right now, but this one I finished in minutes and is something I just had to share with you all! Has anyone seen the cute “I (Heart) U” ABC sign at Target? Well- I have and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. However being on the strict budget that my family has been on I knew that I would never be able to purchase it. So I decided to do it myself!

First things first- I stumbled upon a great sale at Joanns fabrics and purchased an 18×24 poster frame for 50% off (thats when I decided to take the plunge and finally do it). The size is a bit large, but I wanted it to really pull my sons attention into the alphabet and the “I (Heart) U” through the use of empty space. Second, I needed create this sign, so I used my Photoshop Elements program to create it. If you don’t have a program like that you can use another program such as Microsoft Word, you will just need to spend some more time tweeking and adjusting size and color. Third- PRINT! I checked out pricing for a professional print of an 18×24, but that would’ve really put me out of my budget, so I opted for the next best thing… printing it myself with photo paper. Since I already own the printer and paper that part was free (*Big HAPPY face*).  Finally, you place your printed work into the frame, here is my finished product:

And the final price… drum roll please!!!! A whopping $8.07 compared to $19.99 (w/o tax!)

Piggies on the Run!

We made it to the OC Fair yet again, and this year we were able to see my favorite… the racing pigs! But what kind of blog would this be if we didn’t hear from Charles???

“Again they went to the OC Fair without me- again I was left behind… What I don’t get is why they don’t take me? I love being out and about with my boy. But no, I got to sit on the bed and listen to the dogs play. ”

That was Charles POV… Mine was a bit more memorable.

We went with our really good friends Brian and Lesley, the traffic was horrible and slow. Once we made it into the fair Lesley and I gladly ordered ourselves a beer (its a fair- you have to at least try one) before we headed over to the livestock. Sadly the livestock included goats, a few sheep, bunnies, and a couple of plump piggies. Not a single cow (my husbands favorite), but 2 oxen and those do not satisfy the need of cow-viewedge. Soon after we enjoyed walking around the vendors only to hear Jeremiah shout “Mine!” at anything and everything he thuoght he deserved- he was very wrong on everything. There was also some delicious fair food- not only do you need a beer, but you also need something fried. I had a fried twinkie, not the best I’ve had, but hey its a fair. After walking all that fried goodness (which I also helped myself to my hubby’s fried chicken, fries, and part of Lesley’s ice cream funnel cake- good God I am really going to need to not eat for a few days!) off we investigated rides, however instead of riding anything Jeremiah and I went to see the racing pigs! You heard me right, the All-Alaskan Racing pigs were the highlight of our trip- our section was rooting for Bob in the blue. Needless to say, Jeremiah ended up taking home a tiny plush pig that has aptly been named Bob (or as Jeremiah says it “Ba”- we’re still working on getting those last letters in!).

Charles gets wet.

This weekend the talk of the town (okay okay, the talk of mama & dada) is the latest adventure that Charles and Jeremiah took. Here it is for your viewing pleasure….

One of those

Recently I discovered that my son will probably be one of those boys. What is a “one of those boys”? Well, after working at a preschool for 7 years, I’ve seen plenty come and go- they are the boys who keep their Mama’s on their feet 24 hours a day, but not in the bad way, not in a “Who has Johnny bit now?” or a “How did Johnny break it?” Oh no, these boys are the kind that are sweet and loving, but are curious and don’t always restrain that curiosity.

As I sat at my computer, my son playing on the ground next to me, I hear “rawk” in a soft quiet voice… I hear it over and over again until I give a tiny look in his direction. I have to be slow and quick in my looks cause those moments are fleeting, especially once he knows I am looking in his direction. To my eyes I see this adorable boy, blond short hair (yes we cut it), sitting only in his “big boy” shorts, no rolls just a solid little boy… and then I see the finger trying to enter his nose. It missed here and there, but finally I decided to get his attention “What are you doing?” his reply “rawk” and then he shows me on his tiny finger is a much tinier black little rock that he found on the floor- then he attempts to shove his finger up his nose (again and misses)…My son is likely to be one of those boys who will shove something up one of the many holes in their cute bodies, and I will likely be the mom that is kept on my toes all the time wondering which Urgent Care to take him to this time.

Thats my boy.

Alone Time = Yummy Time

So my hubby and I got some alone time tonight (shortly lived mind you) and do you know what we did? Oh I did and it was so good! We made gourmet S’Mores, inspired by our dear friend Kendra Holybee, made of the typical items except for the chocolate. Instead of using plain Hershey bars (my personal opinion is that it is a plastic flavored bar of yuck) we used Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. If you love Reese’s like my husband and I do then this is something you MUST try, and it is so easy to do at home and cheaper than going out for dessert!

Items Needed: Graham Crackers (we use Honey Maid because they hold together better than the off-brands), Marshmellows, & Reese’s (or your choice of chocolate based yummy candy)

How To: (We made ours in our kitchen over the stove) Set up your graham cracker with 1 piece of chocolate yumminess and have a spare graham cracker for a top, warm (or in our case burn) your marshmellow to your liking, place marshmellow on chocolate covered graham cracker, using the top graham cracker hold your marshmellow in place while taking out whatever pointy device you used to warm (or burn) your mellow with. Eat!

You Adultress You!

Yes- today I am going to talk about adultery, but not in the way you may have thought of it. I have been going through Matthew (from the bible- just in case you didn’t follow) for some time now… this is actually my 3rd time this year, and each time I come back with something different. In my reading today, Jesus was talking about adultery (Mat 5:27-30) and in my study I have 3 categories I go through- 1st look at the words, what words stick out to you, 2nd- what is the meaning, and 3rd- Ask questions (I learned this wonderful way of studying through the women’s bible study at The Grove).

So adultery, I am starting my lesson today and saying to myself “Really? I am a good wife- I don’t sleep around, why must I read this today” and as I grunted along reading and writing I began to think differently (God works in mysterious ways). My question (for step 3) was “Could we be considered adulterers when we have an idol?” As the bride of Jesus Christ, when we have idols in our lives does that mean we are actually cheating on God? YES! I hadn’t thought about adultery like this before- and I am sure it is not an original thought, but to me it is and I just had to share it with any of you who read this.

Don’t be a hater, don’t be a cheater, don’t be an adulteress!

Dull Saturday? Paint then!

Well, Mama’s plans fell through for her and Jeremiah to go to a BBQ and pool party, but instead of crying about it she toughened up and took him to Michaels. I got to ride in the cart with my boy and he snuggled with me and showed me all the great things in Michaels. We saw wooden things, paper things, ribbon things, and paint things… Mama got a brilliant idea! She said “Jeremiah- lets paint!” and then she said “PUT YOUR SHOES BACK ON!” Evidently your not suppose to take them off in the store- good thing I am a monkey and I don’t wear shoes or else I’d get the same tone and threat from Mama. We bought the paint, barely, Jeremiah almost ruined it by not keeping his shoes on… But when we got home I got put in the high chair and wasn’t allowed in the fun, so here is the edited story…..
